Royal FloraHolland Case Study - Success Blossoms in the Cloud

The Netherlands is famous as a world center for flower growing and is home to the planet’s biggest flower auction in Aalsmeer, run by Royal FloraHolland (RFH). Dubbed “Wall Street for flowers,” the enormous operation requires the support of thousands of staff and sophisticated systems. The finance department alone has 70 people working to process, record, and analyze the millions of transactions that pass through the auction each day. To help support these operations, RFH completed together with the McCoy Group a pioneering project to move its SAP financial accounting and reporting system to the AWS Cloud.

The SAP S/4HANA system on AWS has coped well with the demands of the world’s largest flower auction. “Our SAP system on AWS has been handling between €15 million and €40 million in transactions every day for sixteen months, and we’ve had no disruption at all,” says Wilco van de Wijnboom, Manager of Accounting and Reporting at RFH. “Overall, I’d give the project 10 out of 10. I’m really happy with AWS and how Flow part of McCoy Group is managing our environment. It gives us the freedom to concentrate on providing services that matter to our members and customers.”
